Fantastic Frogs and Beyond! With Camille Francis

A single day workshop learning to create your very own closed form animal sculptures thrown on the wheel. You will learn techniques of throwing and altering your form at various stages from wet clay to firm leather hard to create 1-2 unique animal sculptures. Camille will teach her personal method of throwing banks, garden sculptures, and pipes.
Skill recommendation: “I can center and throw a 2lb cylinder that has a generally even thickness in the floor and walls”
If you can bring a sketch book and/or even a photo if you already have what you want to create in mind!
10am - 12:
Intros/discuss personal class goals

-Demo Round simple closed spherical shapes
-shaping first
-leaving clay at the top and compressing rim
-when collaring larger shape use “three point” or “choking”, pull walls some w thickness
-When collaring smaller shape use “6 points”
-Demo Various techniques: Frog, armadillo, river otter etc...banks, pipes... Possibilities are
endless
-Students practice on the wheel
12-1:30:
After students throwing 2-3 “bodies”. Instructor will demo hand building techniques for making arms, legs, and face of creatures.
We will work on our sculptures until lunch
1:30-2:30 Lunch -
catered option created by a local chef Vicente Santamaria that includes beverage, main dish and 2 sides with vegetarian options.
2:30- 5pm
Instructor demo assembling sculptures and student work til end of class with instructor support
$175 includes 6 hours hands on clay time, 25 lbs of clay, and a
catered lunch.
