In this 2 day intensive workshop students will learn valuable large sculpture skills making a big ole’ animal of choice.

Rebeccah Polk is a figurative sculptural artist based in Austin, Texas, who creates medium to large scale pieces with a focus on surreal, curious and half animal-like sculptures. She was first taught large scale sculpture under Billy Ray at The Eye of The Dog Art Center.

 

Day One Drawing up ideas:

Students will begin by sketching their animal on paper and then discussing the best plan of action for the build. Due to each person's unique designs, it’s crucial to game plan a large sculpture before jumping right in.

Begin build: Students will learn coiling building large scale with tips and tricks to make the entire process go smooth and quickly.

Demo the start of a large scale sculpture along with rhythm and coil techniques.

Lunch and dry time, it’s very important not to build too quickly if there are intricate angles and edges. Continue building until the end of day.

 

Day Two:

Begin class with everyone inspecting their dryness, it is important to discuss the stages of drying while building large. Texture demos for fur, scales, and features. Build build build! Dry outside if necessary. Demo on features. Lunch Finish up building, talk about surface techniques. Group picture and goodbyes.

 

$325 includes instruction, 25 lbs. of clay, bisque firing of your piece, and a homemade lunch both days.
