Saturday Afternoons 1pm-4pm

January 13th-February 24th

Curious about wood firing? Come take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about and participate in a community wood firing! This seven week class will involve five weeks of making work in the studio, one glazing class, and will end in a spectacular fashion - hands on experience loading and firing the Dogagama! The class will cover which claybodies, construction techniques, and forms are best suited for wood firing. Witness every part of the process offering a foundation and providing direction to give you confidence in your wood fired work. We will cover multiple construction approaches, including throwing and hand building - letting you decide how you spend your time depending on your project idea, personal preference, and experience level. To glaze or leave bare? Flashing slips? Learn the differences and see examples so you can make decisions to get results you are happy with.

Taught by two instructors, Kylee and Nick, who have been co-leading the firings of the Dogagama, the large train kiln here at Eye of the Dog. This is a rare opportunity to have 7 weeks to learn from two heads instead of one - two times the perspective, two times the experience, two times the fun!
The class and all of their work will join forces with over a dozen professional potters who have signed up to participate in an invitational style firing for the week of the firing. See other artist's work and learn how their process may differ and see what impact that might have on the finished pots on unload day. Open to all skill levels, no experience required.

Cost includes 25lbs of clay, glazed and fired + one day of open studio weekly.
